Stewart Family Estates is a portfolio of luxury wine brands, including: Madrone Estate Winery (Glen Ellen), Valley of the Moon (Sonoma Valley), Lake Sonoma Winery (Sonoma County), Plume (Napa Valley) and Quails' Gate (Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada). The Stewart Family — a third generation, pioneering wine family — first planted vines in 1961 and bring over a half-century of experience and appreciation for the uniqueness and special qualities of farming premium vineyards and crafting fine wine. Their philosophy has been to do more with less—with a tradition of low impact viticulture practices—and to work with fruit from renowned vineyards that expresses its origin.
The Stewart family purchased the historic Valley of the Moon property in the heart of Sonoma Valley in 2012 and added a small-lot winery to focus on estate-driven wines. Now called Madrone Estate Winery, the winery produces rich concentrated wines representative of old vines and sustainable winemaking practices. The oldest operating winery in Glen Ellen, Madrone Estate features a beautiful new tasting room, patio, picnic area and bocce court. Sip a glass of wine amidst 100 year-old vines and experience a new chapter in this land's story, where thoughtful stewardship intersects with small-lot winemaking in one of Sonoma's most incomparable settings.
Valley of the Moon wines are still proudly produced at Madrone Estate Winery and honor an important 75-year era when Italian proprietors made wines in the original stone barrel cellar. Valley of the Moon wines are available nationally in restaurants and retail stores.
Lake Sonoma Winery produces wines exclusively from esteemed vineyards of Sonoma County. The Sonoma County winegrowing region boasts some of the most diverse assemblages of terroirs and micro-climates in the world. This diversity is best noted and expressed through Sonoma's sub-appellations, many of which have become truly renowned for the specific varietals that thrive in each. At Lake Sonoma Winery, we work only within the most celebrated of these sub-appellations to offer a brilliant portfolio of fine wines designed to showcase the region’s unique characteristics and the varietal for which it has come to be known.
